Distributed Multicast Address Management in the Global Internet
نویسندگان
چکیده
|We describe a distributed architecture for managing multicast addresses in the global Internet. A multicast address space partitioning scheme is proposed, based on the unicast host address and a per-host address management entity. By noting that port numbers are an integral part of end-to-end multicast addressing we present a single, uni ed solution to the two problems of dynamic multicast address management and port resolution. We then present a framework for the evaluation of multicast address management schemes, and use it to compare our design with three recently proposed approaches, as well as a random allocation strategy. The criteria used for the evaluation are blocking probability and consistency, address acquisition delay, the load on address management entities, robustness against failures, and processing and communications overhead. With the distributed scheme the probability of blocking for address acquisition is reduced by several orders of magnitude, to insigni cant levels, while consistency is maintained. At the same time, address acquisition delay is reduced to a minimum by serving the request within the host itself. It is also shown that the scheme generates much less control tra c, is more robust against failures, and puts much less load on address management entities as compared with the other three schemes. The random allocation strategy is shown to be attractive primarily due to its simplicity, although it does have several drawbacks stemming from its lack of consistency (addresses may be allocated more than once). A Survey on Multicast Routing Approaches in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) which mediates the broadband Internet access, have been recently received many attentions by the researchers. In order to increase capacity in these networks, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi-channel WMNs (MRMC WMNs). Therefore, a vital challenge that poses in MRMC WMNs is how to properly assign channels ...

The rapid growth in mobile traffic leads to the current evolution trend of mobile networks towards a flat architecture. However, the centralized mobility management protocols (e.g. MIPv6, PMIPv6) are not optimized for the flat architecture due to their limitations e.g. complex tunnel management, scalability issue, etc. Hence, a novel mobility management has been proposed for the flat architectu...

متن کاملSupporting the Need for Inter-Domain Multicast Reachability
Internet multicast is transitioning from the flat, virtual topology known as the Multicast Backbone (MBone) to a hierarchical, globally deployed service. This transition introduces a number of important management issues. In particular, it is believed that the success of multicast on a large scale partly depends on the availability of good management tools. In this paper, we address the specifi...

This document specifies Version 3 of the Internet Group Management Protocol, IGMPv3. IGMP is the protocol used by IPv4 systems to report their IP multicast group memberships to neighboring multicast routers. Version 3 of IGMP adds support for "source filtering", that is, the ability for a system to report interest in receiving packets *only* from specific source addresses, or from *all but* spe...
